How CanGrant works
CanGrant is an independent, free guide to Canadian funding. It is not a government website, and no government or funder runs it.
Where the information comes from
Every program comes from the funder’s own page. We read it, sum the program up in plain language, and quote its rules word for word with a link. A quote that no longer appears on the source page comes down until a person checks it again.
Past recipients come from the Government of Canada’s open data on grants and contributions (Open Government Licence – Canada).
Who checks
New and changed programs go through a review queue: a person on our team checks each one before it appears. Every page shows when it was last checked.
How results are ordered
By how well a program fits you, and by deadline. Nobody pays to rank. If we ever show a sponsored spot, it will be clearly labelled and never mixed into your matches.
Avoid grant scams
- You never need to pay to apply for a government program.
- The government won’t call you to offer a grant you didn’t apply for.
- Check that the site you apply on really belongs to the funder (for federal programs: canada.ca or a .gc.ca address).
- If you hire a consultant, get their fee in writing before they start.
